Using just one cloth nappy a day saves over 900 disposable nappies from landfill. Switch to cloth full time and you save over 5000 disposables from landfill. Thats 130 bin bags full of nappies prevented from polluting our environment!

When I set out to cloth nappy my daughter, it was overwhelming but exciting. The joy of using cloth was infectious. The simple fact that they do not end up in landfill, contain no harmful chemicals and can be used again and again; it was an easy choice to make.

While nursing my daughter, late in the night, sleep deprived and tired; my brain busy with ideas of creating my own cloth nappies, I decided to give this a go. I have created these beautiful cloth nappies that I have designed keeping quality, simplicity, effectiveness and ease of use in mind. With signature shaped inserts, you get maximum absorbency as well as more even distribution in the bulk of the nappy.

Making good choices for our children, shouldn’t cost the earth. The cost of disposable nappies varies, but for the more natural and biodegradable varieties, the cost can be around £800 on average, from birth to potty. Using reusables can cost you from £200-£400, to include nappies, cloth wipes, liners and wet bags. This is already a saving, and the saving is bigger when the same stash is used for more than one child.

In this little shop, on the big web, I hope to do things right. From choosing the best quality, ethically made products, to making sure you, the user, are satisfied and happy with your experience. A lot of thought has gone into each step of the process, from product design, to choosing the best recyclable packaging. There won’t be fancy tissue paper and stickers, but you may receive your order in a recycled box, and I really hope you don’t mind. My goal here is to waste less. If I do make any mistakes, i’d love to hear from you. I’m here to learn and grow, and would love to hear your feedback.

CHEMICAL FREE
‘It’s so important to me that my newborns skin is not met with chemicals I know nothing about.’ Using cloth nappies means you get to choose the fabrics that sit against your baby’s delicate skin.

Q Can I use them from birth?

Our cloth nappies are made to fit from around 8lb. Babies come in all shapes and sizes, so although these may not fit straight away, when they do start to fit, you can get the perfect fit by adjusting the snaps for your baby.

Q How many nappies will I need?

20- 25 nappies is sufficient, if you wash every other day. If using a 2 part system like our Econo, you will find that you will need fewer covers, as these can be used more than once before needing to go in the wash.

Q How do I get rid of stains?

Stains on nappies are absolutely normal, all they need is a bit of love from the sun, and they’ll be like new again. Make sure not to use any bleaches, fabric softeners or vinegar!

Q Smells & Leaks, what do I do?

It’s not normal for cloth nappies to give off a potent smell as soon as baby wees; it is a sign that there is some build up of detergent in the nappies and they may need a strip wash. Another sign that your nappies need a strip wash is a lot of leaking. A strip wash is simply a more thorough wash to get all those fibres in the cloth completely clean. Simply follow these 3 steps.

1- Cold rinse cycle with no detergent
2- Full wash cycle -40C/60C - reduced spin (<1000) - extra water- half recommended detergent
3- Full wash cycle -40C/60C - reduced spin (<1000) - extra water- no detergent

If the nappies don’t come out smelling fresh, then just rinse, rinse, rinse.

Q What temperature do I wash at?

When choosing the temperature, just remember a hot wash will clean better, but a cold wash will save energy, and is less harsh on your nappies. High temperatures over time, will cause degradation of textiles. So choose based on your specific requirements. Most parents find that washing at 40C is sufficient, but if baby has had a bug then washing at 60C will ensure a thorough clean.

Q How do I wash out the poo?

For the first 6 months, if baby is breastfed, it’s a breeze. There is no need to wash anything out, the nappy can go in the wash as it is. You will notice a change in babys poo as soon as they start solids. At this point, you can literally shake the nappy over the toilet, to shake off the poo, then throw the nappy into a wet bag/ bucket until wash day. If it’s a pocket nappy, it’s easier to remove the inserts, then shake off the poo. If this doesn’t do the job, use any old bottle to pour water over the nappy, this should wash the poo off into the toilet quite easily. A fleece liner or a disposable liner can make this a little easier.
