Award Winning Sustainable Handbags & Accessories Made from Seat belts & Recycled Materials
Established in 2018, From Belo are ethically sustainable designer handbags and accessories brand. Creating beautiful, innovative, multi-functional and convertible handbags for women for a modern-day lifestyle from recycled materials.
Our quest is to live more ethically, we found ourselves in search of the perfect handbag. We were looking for something beautiful, versatile enough to keep up with our busy lives, and most importantly environmentally friendly and socially responsible, but nothing fit the bill. We decided to take matters into our own hands and From Belo was created.
Inspired by natural beauty, the global community and the unstoppable modern woman, From Belo’s mission is to feed goodness into the world.
The name From Belo originates from the home city of co-founding member Maria and our artisan workers, Belo Horizonte in Brazil. In Portuguese, Belo means beautiful. Beauty comes both from inside and out and our aim is creating a beautiful life for everyone around us.
The hummingbird logo symbolizes the enjoyment of life and the lightness of being.
The products in our accessories range have been thoughtfully designed and created with recycled materials such as fabric off cuts, decommissioned seat belts and plastic bottles. All of which have been saved from landfill to reduce waste.
From Belo bags are crafted and manufactured to the highest quality produced by our artisan workers in Brazil. We pride ourselves in giving ethical working conditions and fair wages to our amazing team.
Sustainable and Recycled Materials
From Belo’s aim is to create fashion that is kind to both people and the planet. We consciously source sustainable and recycled materials for all our products, many which have been rescued from landfill and through our products have been given a second life.
We believe in transparency throughout our production line and also how we source materials.
Fairtrade doesn’t begin and end with our team it includes our supply chain too!
We work with a range of supplies that supply us with old seat belts to recycled plastic bottle fabrics to decommissioned construction wood. For us to ensure a working partnership that maintains our values we map out the supply chain for each of the products that we use to create our products. This enables us to inspect each segment of the supply chain of each source of material.. This ensures that we work with reputable suppliers who treat their team right and actually say what they are doing. The most important part of this process for us is the relationship building. Knowing who we are working with and ensuring we have shared values helps us maintain a supply chain that provides opportunity for every person who is involved.
Seat Belt Handbags
We work closely with mechanic shops in Belo Horizonte, Brazil where we source decommissioned seat belts. These were soon to be relegated to landfill where it takes 200 to 400 years to decompose. Even worse, burnt.
Whilst these seat belts were no longer suitable for use in vehicles, they were destined for bigger and better things. Every seat belt is carefully cleansed using coconut soap, each was given a new life as part of our gorgeous sustainable designer handbags and accessories.
Recycled and Reformed Fabrics
Our plastic bottle fabric is sourced from a local manufacturer that takes excess fabrics from the fashion industry. This is then blended using heat with plastic bottles to make a new thread. This thread is woven into the fabric we use for the lining.
The same principle goes for the recycled cotton fabric used as the main outer textile structure of this bag. A local co-operative picks up excess fabrics, separates them into different colours. They are then chopped up until they turn it back into fibres to make a brand new thread. The thread is woven into this beautiful fabric.
The beauty of both recycled fabrics is that there is no chemicals, water or CO2 emissions in the process them. This is all certified by the European Commission EU Eco-Label.
There is a lot of wood that gets discarded in the building industry. We collect the waste and turn them into the handles you see on our Lucia tote bag.
Organic GOTS Certified Organic Cotton
Our packaging is made using GOTS Certified organic cotton. Lovingly designed so that each dust bag can multitask as a shopping bag or even a pillow if you are on the move. It’s so versatile it works with you. This design emphasizes our belief in minimal, sustainable packaging as well as bags.
We want to leave the world a better place than when we found it. By re-imagining one person’s trash into another’s treasure, we can start the change to make that happen.
