B the Change: B Corp

gDiapers is proud and honored to be a certified B Corporation. B Corporations use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. It’s like a LEED or Fair Trade certification, but for a business.

How it all began: one day over breakfast

gDiapers owners Kim and JasonOne day over breakfast, Jason and Kim Graham-Nye came across an interesting fact. They found that conventional disposable diapers are the third largest contributors to landfills in the world. And yet only five percent of the population uses them. Crazy. It was a fact of stunning proportion met by another amazing fact: a single disposable diaper can take up to 500 years to biodegrade in the landfill. That got the Graham-Nyes thinking, since they were about to have a baby themselves. At 60 diapers a week until toilet training kicks in plus the likelihood of having more than one child, well, it was beyond comprehension.

What does the little g stand for?

When we think of the words we use to describe our children, our world, our happiness and our dreams, a fun pattern takes shape. So many of those words begin with the letter g! Those g words are an endless source of inspiration to the gDiapers community. That little g is the glue that holds us all together, from grassroots to gentle to gorgeous and everything in between. Which g word resonates with you?

The world’s most sustainable disposable diaper solution

Turning diaper waste into a resource

Every day, 50 million diapers wind up in US landfills alone. That’s over four million tons of diaper waste that will wind up in our landfills for 500 or more years as they slowly (very slowly) decompose. What if we could change this story, and not only prevent diapers from winding up in landfills, but turn all of that diaper waste into products like soil, power, and fuel. That’s the mission of gCycle.

gDiapers – The first flushable, Cradle-to-Cradle certified diaper

In 2004 gDiapers introduced the world’s first flushable diaper, a two-part system that created an entirely new category of hybrid diapers. gDiapers remains the only diaper that can be home composted (wet inserts only) and holds the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Certification – ensuring all ingredients in the product get reabsorbed back into nature in a neutral or beneficial way.

gCycle – The world’s first renewable diaper

Transforming diapers into compost was a good start, but not enough. To truly solve the problem gDiapers needed to follow principles of Circular Economy Design, where used products are collected and transformed into ingredients for something more valuable: eliminating the very concept of waste. Enter gCycle, the next generation of g’s designed to divert diapers from landfill for good.

gCycle is both a diaper and a service created specifically for daycare centers. The patented petrochemical plastic-free diapers are made of bio-based film designed for maximum breathability.

The gCycle service will deliver, collect, and safely regenerate gCycle diapers into valuable resources like soil, power or fuel. Dirty diapers to clean energy.

These diapers will change everything

The gDiapers team has been working on gCycle quietly behind the scenes. When it’s ready for launch gCycle will deliver diapers that eliminate plastic, landfill and waste. gCycle is the culmination of years of hard work and passion, and we can’t wait to show you what it looks like. Our journey to bridge the gap between parents and planet and create a solution that is sustainable and simple is just around the corner.
