1st BRITISH B CORP RUM
Hattiers Rum is a B Corp, making us the first British B Corp Rum, and only the second in the world!
Sourcing and Blending the finest rums from around the globe.
All the rums sourced for our blends are made to the highest standards. We do not use colourants to make our rums appear darker, there is no added sugar, just fine rums blended.
We believe you should know what you are drinking, and therefore all component rums, country of origin, ages, distillation method is on the back label of each and every bottle.
From far-flung shores to quiet local corners, we create unique and exceptional blends. We are not here to tell you how to drink your rum, it’s up to you. Neat, on the rocks, mixed or as the base of a cocktail, it’s up to you.
Established in 2017 and the brainchild of Philip Everett-Lyons, Hattiers Rum & H. B. Evelyo Distillery came to life after Philip and his wife had moved back home to the beautiful South Hams in Devon following a decade spent in the worlds of film and television, media publishing and on the boards of several of the South West’s most influential companies and organisations, Philip and the family had a strong desire to create something of their own in the county that they love.
Fuelled by a passion for life at sea, the boom in premium spirits and the West Country’s sea faring legacy, rum was the only choice. But not just any old rum. Good rum. Really good rum.
Keeping his core family values of honour, integrity, loyalty and trust tucked firmly in his breast pocket, Philip embarked on eighteen months of research, development and tasting, followed by more research, more development, more tasting (followed by much more of the same) until eventually, the first release of Hattiers Premium Reserve Rum was ready.
Named after Philip’s eldest daughter and launched in the early summer of 2018, Hattiers’ premium sipping rum has hit all the right notes, winning multiple awards and creating a stir wherever they take it. Work on the Devon rum development is continual with a handful of new craft rums in the pipeline, 2020 is shaping up to be another exciting year.
In truth, it’s been nothing short of a whirlwind. Hattiers rum can now be enjoyed in pubs, bars and restaurants throughout the UK, while collaborations with some of the finest local artisans continue to showcase, not just Hattiers Rum, but the very best of what the South West has to offer.
Using business as a force for good:
The landscape of business is changing, and in our time of sustained environmental and social crisis, no business can afford to ignore the effects of its products and operations.
We are past the time when any business can simply ask its employees to leave their values and humanity at home, and no business can any longer afford year after year to pursue minor incremental efficiencies while foregoing opportunities to help the environment rather than deplete it.
It is for that reason that we could not be more proud that Hattiers Rum joins the cohort of likeminded businesses, taking the ‘quadruple bottom line’ approach of, People, Planet, Profit and Purpose, using business as a force for good.
In early November 2020, Hattiers Rum officially became B Corp certified. On this day we join over 3,500 companies, in 150 industries, across 73 countries were independently verified by the B Lab as ‘using business as a force for good’. This means adhering to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and accountability, or in other words, balancing profit and purpose.
Hattiers Rum is now the first British B Corp Rum, and only the second in the world. We join a cohort of over 400 UK B Corps who are reinventing business, by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
To receive certification, we had to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices – including energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. Finally, to complete the certification, we have legally embedded our commitment to purpose beyond profit into our company articles.
As a result, we are now proud to be officially part of a community including well-known brands like Finesterre, Innocent, Patagonia, Riverford, Abel & Cole, Divine, and JoJo Maman Bebe.
Since our beginning in 2017, Hattiers Rum has existed as benchmark of where we believe rum should be. Our purpose has always been bigger than making and selling fine blended rums.
The commitments we have made to our community, country and planet that have shaped the way we do business. Our refusal to outsource our warehousing and bottling sees us employ within our county, rather than farming production out.
We made the decision to be plastic free from day one, first because we think it’s the right thing and secondly to share with our peers that it is achievable to all. Thankfully it is becoming easier to achieve each year. We partnered with Flexi-Hex to provide a simple and sustainable packaging that ensures our bottles get to you safely.
These actions may sound simple, but they are not the norm, nor are they an exhaustive list of our proudest achievements. Regardless of what we have conquered to date, we will continue to push our priorities forward across our sustainability pillars; in Community, Environment, People, Packaging & Waste, and Energy.
Next step is to commit to Net Zero Carbon. We shall achieve this by the end of 2021, and in the meantime start planing our own woodland.
