ishga, it’s our little secret.

On a faraway isle, near the north west coast of Scotland, we’re using an ancient secret to create award-winning natural skincare, using the life-giving power of the sea to restore the skin and the soul.

This paradise is a world of myth and legend, and an age from stress and strain, where clear Hebridean waters cleanse golden sands to wash problems away.

ishga is derived from the Gaelic for water. The Hebridean islands speak an ancient language too. The ocean is their heartbeat, a source of infinite abundance with the ability to heal and rejuvenate.

Hand-harvested seaweed yields vitamins; minerals; amino acids; anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids, and we combine them with local spring water to harness over 86 vitamins and minerals.

Our scientists use a bespoke, natural process to create a truly unique range of organic skincare with the most remarkable anti-aging, hydrating and skin-renewing properties.

Light base oils such as sweet almond or jojoba, essential oils like rose geranium or lemongrass, and nourishing moisturisers including cocoa and shea butters, glide blissfully on and balance, nourish, smooth and repair.

Across the world, ishga’s luxurious, regenerative, vegan skincare products are transforming more and more people’s skin, to make them look healthier, younger and more radiant.

Everyone will notice the change in yours – trust ishga, it’s our little secret.

The name ishga is derived from the Gaelic word for water.

The pure, clean waters of the Hebridean Islands off the north west coast of Scotland is home to ishga, and where we sustainably hand harvest the seaweed that’s at the heart of our skincare range.

Hebridean seaweed contains natural antioxidants with properties which transform and protect tired or aging skin. ishga has developed a bespoke process to extract its natural goodness, harnessing an abundance of vitamins and minerals to create a remarkable range of products.

It’s the secret to younger, healthier skin – let us share it with you.

ishga was born from a passion for beauty, science and seaweed. Malcolm a scientist, his wife Joanna, a beauty therapist and Martin, a seaweed expert, set out together to create results driven organic skincare, harnessing the natural skin antioxidants, healing, and anti-ageing properties of pure, Scottish seaweed.

Malcolm created our Hebridean Seaweed extract, which is the cornerstone of the science behind ishga’s natural organic skincare. This mineral rich extract is blended with organic ingredients and beautiful essential oils to create our award-winning products.

Our Anti-oxidant Marine Face Cream was the first product to be developed through collaboration between our laboratory on Lewis and our first spa partner, Blythswood Square, in Glasgow. Leon Trayling, spa director at Blythswood Square, and co-founder of ishga, has since helped test every product with a team of expert therapists.

Fresh, hand-harvested Hebridean seaweed is used to prepare all the extracts and powders used in our ishga natural skincare products. The extracts are produced using a low temperature extraction process, and gently dried and milled to create powders. Our harvesting methods are both environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Seaweed, water & salt

Seaweed is one of the world’s most naturally abundant sources of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids. Used throughout the ishga skincare range, our seaweed extracts and powders deliver anti-ageing, hydrating and skin-renewing properties.

Our unique seaweed extract is the cornerstone of ishga’s range of natural organic skincare. It’s extracted directly into Hebridean spring water using a low temperature extraction process, which protects the beneficial compounds and enzymes. It’s been independently tested and is rich in polyphenols.

Antioxidant polyphenols provide protection against environmental damage to the skin by neutralising free radicals. Used throughout the ishga range, our mineral-rich extract is blended with organic ingredients and essential oils to create each product.

Cucumber extract, macadamia, jojoba oil, thistle oil, Hebridean Sea Salt and aloe vera are some of the many natural skincare ingredients we use to nourish, hydrate and protect your skin.

ishga also uses Hebridean spring water sourced from a healing spring on the Isle of Lewis. Excellent for skincare, it contains a potent mineral content, which includes potassium, magnesium and sulphates.

Hebridean Seawater

ishga uses Hebridean seawater in all products, and we collect it from the surf as the waves break on our island’s beautiful beaches. The coastal waters surrounding the Outer Hebrides are recognised as being amongst the most pristine in the world, and to reflect this, they’ve been given the highest quality classification available by SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency). The sea is rich in vital minerals and contains 83 elements found on the periodic table.

People have always been mindful of water – it’s at the heart of all living matter. Historically, on the Hebridean islands of Scotland, great importance was attached to locations where it flowed, and in particular, certain natural springs were noted for their different healing properties. These places are full of beauty, but were also spiritual places, which could bring health from the heart of the earth.

Every product in the ishga skincare range includes water from a spring, which is situated in a beautiful and remote location among the hills and lochs on The Isle of Lewis. Our spring is a lively spring with a bottom of blue clay, and according to local folklore, it was used throughout the ages for its healing and therapeutic properties.

ishga sea salt is hand-harvested using the simplest of recipes. Seawater, heat and time create pure, white crunchy sea salt flakes, which are ideal for our sea salt scrub.

This sea salt is a pure, natural, unrefined salt which retains over 60 naturally occurring trace elements such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and zinc – all essential for good health and well-being.
