Vegan personal care for every body. Always ethical, low-waste, handmade & cruelty-free.

The only animals you’ll find in our products are the drawings on our packaging. Founded by two vegans and named for our two cats and our bird, we are forever cruelty free, Leaping Bunny–certified and palm-oil free. Our vegan standard is not just about our ingredients—it extends to how we source, too. We take a whole picture approach to veganism, so we don’t source materials that harm the habitats or food sources of animals (human animals, too).

Our products are made for every person, every body, every identity. That’s right, there is no “women’s” or “men’s” in our line, because no one should be limited in their choices. There is an unending number of ways to express and embody beauty and self care. We practice: all scents, all textures, all products—for all people. Sometimes it feels like we blinked and got pegged as being part of the “beauty industry.” But hey, beauty is in the SPIRIT, and we’ve got plenty of that.

We take a slow food approach to skin care. Our ingredients are certified organic, non-GMO, and from strong or renewable plant populations. We only use raw and unrefined plants oils and butters, steam-distilled and cold-pressed essential oils and house-made extractions. Plants are amazing and we want you to experience them as close to their original form as possible.

We are always trying to reduce the amount of waste we contribute to landfills, and we focus on two key ideas: (1) make packaging that breaks down naturally, and (2) create circular systems of reuse that eliminate waste entirely. Yes, we made the first-ever deodorant in a compostable tube… and our bulk program is a closed loop refill system and 100% zero waste. We avidly strategize ways for our products to be multipurpose to create value for you, and also lower the overall waste impact for all of us. All of our products are housed in glass, metal or compostable paper (and when we say compostable, we’re talking backyards).

We are craftspeople, and to us that means committing to process and materials. We make our products in small batches, by hand, in our New York microfactory. This enables us to provide the freshest, highest quality products and to contribute to our community by providing jobs’ and skills’ training. We often remind our team that every single product goes to a single person, so whether they’re making 100 deodorants or sending their 100th email, every jar and every message matters. Yes, small batch is a mindset.

Every month we choose an organization to redistribute funds to. We especially prioritize small, mutual-aid, grassroots focused, BIPOC- and queer-led organizations that align with our values through their work in the categories of Earth & Nature, Social Justice, and Animal Justice. In other words, where our hearts are.

Meow Meow Tweet was founded in Brooklyn in 2009 by Tara Pelletier (she/they) and Jeff Kurosaki (they/them).

The pair, who met in art school in Michigan, possess an innate openness and curiosity that led them to wonder why a gift of handmade soap left their skin feeling so much better than a commercial bar. Together, they set out to learn everything they could about making soap at home. The result was a creamy, skin-nourishing formula that received accolades from family & friends. Bolstered by the positive feedback, they went on to found their all natural vegan apothecary Meow Meow Tweet, named for their two beloved cats and Jeff’s bird.

From soap to natural insect repellent and deodorant cream to a complete facial regime, Meow Meow Tweet is committed to creating pure, all natural, plant and mineral-based formulas. Drawing on Tara’s background as a chef and herbalist, all goods are developed as if they were modern culinary dishes. All of our packaging features whimsical illustrations by Jeff.

Along with Meow Meow Tweet, Tara and Jeff work together as a collaborative artist team, where they create sculpture, music and performances. The team relocated to the Hudson Valley in the beautiful Catskill Mountains during the winter of 2015. Surrounded by nature, they continue to find inspiration to infuse into their art, and their cherished brand.
