Superior denim and apparel, carefully sourced and conscientiously made.
In 2006 Monkee Genes was born out of frustration of the denim market, wanting to offer something fresh, vibrant and youthful, with an eco and ethical conscience.
The team behind the brand wanted to prove that there is such a thing as looking fashionable whilst supporting sustainability. Fast forward to 2020 and the brand has grown into an ethical fashion destination, with all of our garments made in GOTS certified factories.
We work hard to protect the people who make our clothes, working closely with our factories to ensure safe working conditions and a decent living wage. Our commitment to ethics paired with innovative fits offers a point of difference to the denim market.
All organic, all ethically produced, all fairly made!
Where are your products produced?
All of products are produced across Turkey, Indonesia, India & Pakistan, where we work closely with our ethical factory partners.
How often should I wash my Monkee Genes?
As little as possible! This not only prevents any shrinking or fading, but saves water so is kinder to the environment.
Are your jeans recycled or second hand?
Our jeans are made from recycled fabric from old jeans. The processes used makes the jeans fresh and new, whilst using recycled fibres to reduced waste.
What dyes do you use, are they toxic?
Our dyes are non-toxic meaning that they are safe for everyone involved in the supply chain and the end customer.
Are your products vegan?
Yes, all our products are vegan. Our back patches are made from Jacron – a unique paper material with a leather-like look. It withstands industrial washes, passes needle detectors, does not tear, and most importantly is a vegan, more sustainable alternative to leather or plastic.
Is there a difference between organic and Fairtrade?
Only cotton from developing countries such as India can be marked as Fairtrade, but not Turkey where we source some of the cotton used in our denim. Fairtrade regulates the social aspects of cotton production while GOTS or OCS regulate the environmental aspects. Fairtrade cotton is not always organic, and organic cotton fields might not be Fairtrade-certified. Wherever possible, we strive to use both Fairtrade and Organic cotton.
What planet resources do I help when I buy a pair of Monkee Genes?
Our Eco Wash collection uses up to 80% and our Jet-Black styles up to 95% less water in the laundry process than traditional methods. Our organic cotton produces 46% less CO2 emissions compared to traditional cotton. Our production methods use up to 40% less energy.
Do you use GOTS certified organic cotton?
Yes! Our cotton is GOTS certified to ensure the highest environmental and social standards.
Do you operate a reuse or recycling scheme?
Currently we do not have a return scheme for used jeans however we are partnered up with Regain – an app where you can donate your unwanted or used clothes to be recycled and you’ll acquire a Monkee Genes discount code.
